Finally, a moment to breathe, and not think about the Walk (although I still am...).
We had a great walk today! We had friends old and new show up, and we had a lot of fun. I'll post some pictures either in a slideshow down below or to the right. : ) I never am totally ready, and was feeling so behind this week, but it pulled together, and went fine. I didn't get the shirts printed till Thursday (and didn't get them till 5pm!). That always throws me off. I may have to look for a new place next year. I have a good hint that Logoworks could be good. I'll check into it early next year! I might do a school walk in the spring, and print two sets: one for the school kids, and one set for our walk in the fall. Do you have a good theme for us? I'm already planning, and I can't wait to plan another walk shirt! I think if I had a good general theme, they'd run with it. They always seek advice, and do really great things with it. I have to say, I got compliments on our event, planning, and organization. I can say I had nothing to do with it! : ) I'm learning to cut down on things, so this was another area...
Anyway, it was fun, tons to do for the kids, and as always, plenty of food, so Kudos! : )
AND, I got to catch up with some friends I haven't seen in a long time, and that was the best! Thanks for coming out to support Mary Claire you guys! : ) It means the world to her!
I go back to the doctor on Monday, so I'm not excited. I have no idea what this appointment is really for, so I'm nervous. Blood work, again? I'm fine, so I just don't know what to expect. It's been two weeks now, so time does continue, and things do move along. I hope I can just tell him I'm fine. Ches says I can't refuse bloodwork, but it should SO be optional!
Gosh, it's been so long, I feel like so much has happened in a week! Ethan got started in Mother's Day Out (first day was Tuesday), and he loved it! He wouldn't even say bye to me. I missed Bible Study since I wanted to take him the first day, and it started before he did. I think that Ches will take him in the future, and then drive to work. We'll get it worked out. Ches is trying to train for the Tour de Cure (100 miles), and ride every day plus get in a four hour ride every Friday-Yeah, I just tell him good luck with that. At least I can say I know someone who can do it . : )
Mary Claire was so high last Wednesday that I had to go get her at school since she couldn't eat. Her blood sugar just stayed over 240 for too long. I'm sure she had ketones by then. I got her, brought her down, then she ate with me while we were at Susan's hanging out. She ended up going with me to drop an extra shirt to print at the shirt shop, then to Rogers to pick up Ethan, then I took her back to school. It turned out to be fun for her, so she didn't mind. She absolutely loved going into the building to get Ethan! She actually used to go there, so she likes to go back.
We also have had Bank Day to turn in funds for our team for the walk, and I didn't get to tell Deb about the baby. She told Ches congratulations the week before when he went by to drop off money. He didn't have the words or heart (or time) to tell her, so he told me to tell her. How exactly do you bring that up? I haven't said anything to her. She'll figure it out.
Thursday and Friday were catch-up-and-get-ready days! That's about the time I got hyper and had to start planning. I'm so tired after my lack of sleep, but it's my own fault. I can't wait to get back into the routine, and back to my "normal" busy. Routine can be very therapeutic. For me.
We didn't go to church as a family last week, so I miss it. We also found out that our priest is being transferred to Fayetteville, and I didn't take it so well. He does such a great job of bringing our parish together, and I just don't know how someone else can do it as well. He's also sweet, and we'll miss him and his exuberance. What more can I say? Loss on all sides this month. I'll just bask in what we do have, and be thankful.
Seriously, not much time, but. He is potty trained. I think. He got out of the pool three times last night, stripped down his massive body suit, and peed in the potty chair!! : ) We took it outside, since Ches couldn't convince him to pee in the grass (thank goodness). It was awesome!! My last small victory was on Saturday. We took the kids to a wedding! (Their first!) and he didn't have an accident (pull up, just in case!). He even went to pee in the bathroom! and when we ate afterward, he didn't have an accident either! When we got home, his pull up was dry, and he still had his little cars. Oh, the excitement! I think it's the potty chair in front of the tv, the week of rain (so we were inside), and the m&m's. I take very little credit-seriously-I think he was ready.
Ches is leaving EARLY Wednesday to go to LA...without cute little me. So sad. He'll be so lonely, and I so won't be. Crazy at our house. I'll get back in the game (Mommy Game) and go socialize. I have bible study on Wed, Thurs. is story time at the library, and Friday is Park Day. Saturday is church (we'll get to that when it comes), and Sunday stay home? I'll fit in CFA and some play time, maybe call Dad for a date on Father's Day? With my three kiddos? Haha. Only he won't see humor. Ches doesn't come back till almost 10pm on Sunday, so we'll celebrate late, he says. : ) I'll send some fun stuff for his suitcase. : )
Ok, babysitters (watchers? since I've no babies) will be here shortly. I'm headed out to register the kids for swimming lessons-more advanced this year!, soccer, get more groceries, thread for a friend's monogram, Target, hmm..if time, Dillard's for new sandals!! : )
Have a great day, and I'll catch ya later! : )
We made it successfully to MDO today, and Ethan was great! He wanted me to get him a puzzle, then he got into his seat. He's growing up!
When it was time to leave the house to take him, he wanted me to go. He told me, "Mommy, bye-bye," and pointed to my seat-front right-since Ches was planning to take him. I ran and got my stuff, since I'd already gotten ready, and we all went out. After we dropped him off, we went to the new Target in Rogers! It was just beautiful, and stocked perfectly. I mean books in the One Spot up front were stacked perfectly-even inside the big bins. It was fun, they had new stuff-like furniture similar to what Ikea has for storage, new designers making functional office supplies/storage (where did I spend most of my time??), and finally a local Target has the shoes I got in Houston back in January. The turquoise ones I got, I finally wanted to wear, and they were too big. So, Rogers had them, and I rebought! Now I have the first pair with the receipt ready to return.
I also bought two new lime-y, recycle-y green tubs to recycle!! No, we don't currently recycle since in Springdale you have to pay extra, and I think it's wrong. They sell the bulk stuff to buyers, so the city makes money off our recycling trash, but they charge us monthly. So they make money both ways (I have heard that the market has dropped the price they get on recycleables, so maybe they aren't making as much currently). The only reason I have decided to recycle (besides it being very good for the environment) is that my kids keep asking why we don't recycle, and telling them we have to pay extra is lame. They just want to help our earth, so I'll start doing better. Now I know what must have happened in my students' homes when we used to teach about recycling at school-Pressure! So, now we'll be doing our tiny part. Besides using WM's black bags for our groceries-no more plastic! and they hold sooo much more! Sam's even has their gigantic version now, but I haven't invested in them thus far. Maybe in another year. Baby steps.
Right before I picked up Ethan, I got gas (at WM-yes, I go every day. I know the door greeter now. Very Sweet.). Well, somehow in the process, I lost my debit card. I didn't realize till it was time to get Ethan. I had not printed a receipt, so I didn't have a phone number to call them. So I just called the bank, and had it cancelled. It was easier than me having a panic attack. I also enrolled (free for 30 days) in the special credit monitoring service they offer. Just in case. Then, picked up Ethan, circled back to Lowell, and guess who had my debit card? Yep, the gas station. The girl at Bank of America had told me that if I cancelled it, and found it, she would be unable to reinstate it, but at least I'd found it, and it was mine to trash. If I could've just waited 45 minutes to make the full circle. Oh well, it was getting awful old and worn-looking anyway. Maybe the new one will be prettier! : ) I'll know if 5-7 days.
My other big job...the insurance thing. I've been procrastinating about calling to check on my insurance money for the freezer motor/auger, and turned in the receipt/bill maybe a week and a half ago? Well, it's been on my to-do list to call them for about a week. Today, I got a check in the mail for the freezer! They reimbursed, and I didn't have to call. Talk about relief. Small hooray! : )
Tonight is p.r.e. for the kids, and I'm starting to think about dinner...maybe we'll grill chicken. Clay just finished his homework for school that's due on Friday, so he won't have to do it tomorrow-boy scout night. They are having fun playing outside-it's so beautiful! A heavenly 63 degrees. Warm, sunny, not too windy. I just hope Ethan wakes up to get some playtime out there too! The kids came in slamming and banging, and he slept right through it!
Enjoy your sunny day, and hold on to those little plastic thingies!
Today was a sick day. Not for me, but for Mary Claire. She said her throat hurt, she didn't feel good, and she was just convincing enough. I let her stay home. Today was my MDO, and since I was carpooling, I went ahead and took Ethan. She went with me, if only to remember where she used to go. Susan, the director, would've never recognized her! It's been an awful long time! About 5 years? Anyway, I was out of milk, so I had to run to WM. We walked thru the girls' stuff (first mistake) to get to the other side, and she found a little Tinkerbell backpack she thought she desperately needed. I asked her what she'd use it for (assuming to put her meter in), and she said for Bella (the unicorn): for her blanket, pillow, bottle, diaper, etc. Well, I had to say no. She cried, boohoo'd, etc. right through the checkout, in the car, and wouldn't look at me. When Ches called on the way home, he said it sounded like she needed to go back to school! Well, then she quit the crying, and started in again about the throat!
I took Isabella home (precious child-she gave me hugs and kisses-can I keep her?), got Ethan to bed, Mary Claire kinda-to-bed (she keeps bouncing back down the stairs to see if Clay's home yet!), and put my sweet new stamps together. I love them!! : ) One says, "Donut be sad" and has a picture of a donut! : ) Another says, "Sick? Milk It." with a milk carton. I love them!! : ) Are you sad? Cause I'll send you a card!
Clay's home! We are investigating the Triops progress. Which is nil right now. Just tiny floating eggs. We're even using a magnifying glass. Maybe the water temp isn't right? Maybe they aren't real? It says they'll send us another set if these don't hatch. I think it's still a scam. A $4 scam! I'll keep checking on them...
Mary Claire has been high all day! I think she has a bad site. It seems like she's been high for three days. There aren't any air bubbles in the tubing. I don't think it's a real illness as she has a temp of 96.7. No fever, that is. So, we are off to change her pump site, cause she wants to eat! (and is currently 333-definitely over ketone level now for 3 hours!) Time to cut our losses, and start all over! New insulin, reservoir, site, etc. God must have a lot of faith in me! More than I have in myself.
Can I just take a sick day? I think I'm feeling that feeling Mary Claire felt this morning...it's called gymnastics/dinner/gs leaders' meeting... Is the feeling called Responsibility? or Work?
Feelin' sucky? Havin' a down day? Well, I can top your story any day! Let's just talk about my day so far. At 10:07am.
So, I get up early (before the kids) to shower. Because today is Mother's Day Out, and I get to Go Out!! So, I spend time on my hair-blow drying sections, velcro-rolling them so I'll have nice body/bounce in my hair. I get the kids around (rollers in hair feeling like alien), make ponytails, coax a two-year-old into a cute red gingham button down shirt for his Valentine's party *so cute!* Then quickly put on make up, field a couple of calls, push the first load of laundry to the dryer, load the second (hopefully will be done before I leave so as not to sit wet all day), then I remembered I hadn't filled out Ethan's cards yet (Ches did it, thank you, God!), got together his party stuff/donations, grabbed some returns/receipts, jacket, umbrella, out the door. Late. I left the house about 10 till 9.
Well, I'm on the phone, and apparently Freakin' FORGOT that the Stupid Speed Limit on Wagon Wheel is STUPID 25. I must have been wearing my "I'm feelin' like a ticket" flag, cause they bit. I kept seeing all these stupid lights in my back window, like get off my tail, sucker. So
I got off the phone with, "I gotta go. A cop." We did the usual (amazingly, Ches must have pried my id out of the little window last night-how did he know?) exchange of paperwork, and he disappeared to the recesses of his blinky car. Ok, after 4-5 minutes (time to run my tag/make a judgment call), I knew we were in Ticket Territory. Another few minutes, he appeared with the stupid metal clipboard/box (where do they get those?). I rolled down my window to take the clipboard, and he stood back, so the rain could sufficiently humidify my nice bouncy hair-especially on the left side. I kept nodding, like, "I get this, gimme the clipboard so I can get my kid on to Mother's Day Out. Can't you tell I'm running late?" So, finally I sign it and he tells me to "have a nice day". Yep, you shot that one.
So, he screwed up my hair and made me later-all for a handsome price.
So Ches called, to tell me we had a problem, I said, "Yep, me too." And he said Durham's had called, and there was a spot open for Ethan on Thursday mornings-and this Thurs. he has an ENT appt. So, I said, "Remember when you told me the next time there was a big expensive thing, not to tell you, because it causes you more stress, you don't handle the money, and it was better if you didn't even know?" And, he said yes. So, I said, "So do you still feel that way?" Yes again. So then, "Have a great day today, love you!" Click. I'd saved his day of my misery. I just have to suffer alone. With bad hair.
When we got to the school, I got in the back, loaded up like a pack horse: child, backpack, lunchbox, bag of party goodies, and umbrella-and took him in thru the pouring rain. He got near his door, and started to scream and cry, "bye, bye!" He did NOT want to go to MDO today. Knowing how I feel sometimes, and how it was nice and dry and comfy at home, I could see his point. I really only had a couple of errands after my busy day yesterday, so I brought him home. No tickets on the way home if you were wondering.
Why can't they just have a slider for my debit card? They're only out there to make money, otherwise why the stupid 25 mph speed limit on a Major Road? They could just swipe my debit card, I could enter my PIN, and get back to life. So I called the Rogers Police Dept. (talked to Megan, So Sweet!) and they said they don't turn the tickets in for two weeks, so I couldn't pay it till then. But they have my court date as Feb. 23rd (7am again!), so how could I avoid a Warrant for my arrest (sounds so ominous) by paying before court date, if they won't have the ticket recorded, so I could pay. See? They are just making money. She said to bring it in, she'd process it for me, so I could pay it. How kind of her. I told you she was sweet! We decided I'd come in next week after I dropped Ethan off at MDO, since it was close to the PD. So, I'll add that to my To Do List for next Tuesday. If I get a MDO. And Ethan doesn't rebel.
So now we're home. Ethan and I are playing table tent/crawling chase under the dining room table (sans chairs), Cracker Barrel game (I'm an imbecile), barrel of monkeys, color tiles, and now he's playing legos. I'm having a Mother's Day In. Like usual-getting my laundry done! And redone, as a foreign plaid napkin made it into my Light basket (and it's not light colored). It colored about 4 other pieces of clothing, so I have to rewash and hope for the best. One of them made it thru the dryer, and it was one of her favorites: her red and white sailor shirt. Sadness.
Ok, I do get to go out later. (Small hurray! heard in distance) Ches is home and will watch Ethan while I run to Target and eat lunch out. And the rain may have stopped. It could be a better day.
Gotta go, Ches is coming, and I don't want to ruin his day. ; )
